Orange Mint Moth, Pyraustra orphisalis The orange mint moth is a pest to mint farmers, though some suggest that by encouraging branching, the moth may actually increase the crop.  But in my yard, it is pretty enough to be worth sacrificing some of the mint leaves.

Orange Mint Moth, Pyraustra orphisalis Here is a picture of the caterpillar of the orange mint moth.  Are you sure your not looking at the edge of a rolled leaf?  Even when you see the characteristic damage to the plant, it not easy to find the caterpillar.

Orange Mint Moth, Pyraustra orphisalis The next day the caterpillar changed to this, more visible brown color.  But even though I knew there was a cocoon somewhere in the jar, I could not locate it.
